James is one of the oldest Epistles written, perhaps somewhere between 44 and 62 AD. The author is said, by some, to be James the half brother of Jesus, who was the leader of the Jerusalem Council and the early Church.

This Epistle was written to the believing Jews that came to Christ in Acts chapter two, then returned to their homes throughout the ancient world. From Babylon to Rome, wherever any community of Jews might be gathered for commercial or social purposes, these exhortations could be carried and read. The Epistle was probably circulated most widely in Syria and Asia Minor, but it may have gone out to the ends of the earth. Here and there in the ghettos of Roman Empire, groups of the Jewish exiles would gather and listen while one of their number read this letter from home.

The Epistle is a "How To" book for our Christian Life. It address's trials, and points out the dangers that can come with them. It shows us faith and works, and tackles issues of Pride, Humility, patience and Boastfulness.
